Helping children with their studies post-lockdown

Studies of children have been very much affected due to the prolonged lockdown imposed on the nation because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Online classes were being taken every day, but those classes didn't help children improve their academic performance.

Amid lockdown, children also got themselves into control of online games, making their parents worried.

Now, after the lockdown lifted, we can see things get worse. Schools are now being reopened, but many children aren't going to study in these schools. They are not able to do things they once did every single day.

Their immunity power has dropped, and so has their concentration power. Nowadays, kids don't even want to write in a notebook because they think it's too tiresome.

This is bad news for parents as well as teachers.

But, instead of worrying, we should do something to make kids love studying again.

1) In this lockdown, many people have seen their income go very low, because of which they are now doing low-paying jobs.

In such a case, they have to try to spend an hour or two at night helping their kids study. Talk to them about their concerns. Help them build confidence in themselves again.

2) Try to stay away from the television and mobile when you can to help your child stay focused.

Remember that it is a critical time both for you and your child.

To help our kids be better at a particular thing, we should first try to make ourselves better at it. Only then will we be able to persuade our children to do the same.

3) We are now seeing teenagers turn to social media more than ever before. They are making so many new friends on social media and forgetting about the friends and family they have in reality.

You know that this is not a good thing.

To make your child value real-life relationships again, you should make them meet their school or neighbourhood friends and relatives again.

4) Many teenagers stay glued to their laptops and smartphones, telling their parents that they are studying. But, that is not true.

These days, making short videos on the phone and uploading them on social media has become a cool thing to do.

Doing what makes you happy is not bad, but one should know the limits. If a specific habit is doing more bad than good, it is time to take it under control.

If you have seen your young one get into the trap of such a habit, try to divert his mind from it.

You can ask him to help you with house chores, help his younger siblings with their studies, etc.

Doing these things will shape him up to become a more responsible person.

5) Teachers should organize some competitions and ask children to participate in those.

Participating in such programs will ignite the creativity the kids have in their hearts.

Group activities will encourage children to get close to each other.

If you have some likable story books in the school library, give those books to kids from time to time to read as they can get bored by reading their course material all the time.

Many young teenagers who are preparing for their board exams are not able to pay for tuition.

Teachers should give extra classes to these children to help them do well in their exams.

As a teacher or parent, if you start practicing the above-mentioned things, you will surely soon see children start doing well in their studies again.
