Encourage your child to write on paper

In this article, I want to say a few things about a huge issue surrounding the studies of children.

It is possible for many of my readers, who are parents themselves, to unknowingly not pay attention to this particular issue.

My experience with kids of this generation says that they tend to avoid writing by hand in their notebooks.

I don't think the corona lockdown is to blame entirely for this.

If we try being honest with ourselves, we will see from where the problem is actually coming.

In this era of laptops and smartphones, kids find it easier to type things on their favorite gadget than write the same stuff in their copy.

Now, I am sure you know that this habit will not do them any good. It is important for children to read and write the things they learn over and over to improve in studies.

It is the duty of the teacher and the parents to make the little ones do these activities with help and encouragement.

As a responsible parent, you must know that getting your child admitted to the city's biggest school and getting them the most sophisticated gadgets will not ensure your child's success in studies and life.

As a parent, interacting with your kids is a responsibility. Try to understand where they need help. No matter how busy you are, you must take a small amount from your everyday life to teach your kids something.

In this article, I am sharing some tips that will help you train your kids to become better at writing and make them like the act of studying more -

Note  - All these tips are best for kids ages 4-12. After that, they become confident enough to pave the way on their own, without much help from your side, for higher studies.

1) Put that phone away.

Don't let your child use your smartphone at such a young age. It is distracting and disruptive. I'm sure you know how long it takes for scrolling stuff and playing games on the smartphone to become addictive.

To set a good example for them, you will also have to limit your screen time.

2) Buy them a lot of notebooks to write on.

If you ask for a bunch of these notebooks in the market, you can buy them at a low price.

3) Everyday, take 1- 2 hours of your precious time to sit with your kids to make them practice writing.

Make a daily study routine for them.

I have put a weekly study routine below that you can use as an example -

Monday - Ask them to practice writing by copying a page of the chapter they have studied recently in Hindi and English subjects in their copy.

Tuesday - Dictate at least 10-15 difficult words in Hindi and English.

Wednesday - Give them a few math problems, in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, etc. Besides these, make them write tables.

Thursday - According to the class they study in, make them create sentences, write antonyms and synonyms, and jot down essays.

Friday - You can ask a few simple general knowledge questions and make your kids write the answers in their copy.

Saturday - This will prove to be the best day to unleash their inner creativity! On Saturdays, you can ask your kids to draw things they like.

Also, you can draw an object in the notebook and ask them to write 8-10 lines about that object.

For example- A chair.

Sunday - Don't ask them to write today. Let this day be a resting day. Indulge some leisure activities with them and say a few lines of encouragement. If possible, take them to a place where they can enjoy their day.

4) If your kids do well in writing and give answers to questions correctly, don't forget to appreciate their efforts by writing remarks like- Outstanding, excellent, good, etc.

5) Make them take one or two tests to evaluate their writing abilities every month.

Some more stuff you can encourage your kids to do are -

You can ask your kids to write the names of things available in the kitchen.

You can make them write the names of members of their family,  friends, etc.
