9 Colours of Navratri

 


Navratri is a nine day long Hindu festival celebrated every year in the autumn. The word Navratri means 'nine nights' in sanskrit. The nine nights of navratri depict the battle between Durga and demon Mahishasura. The nine days of Navratri are dedicated to goddess Durga and her nine avatars the Navadurga. Each day of Navratri the devotees gets dressed in a specific colour.

1) October 17 ( Grey)- It's the very first day of navratri when kalash sthapna is done. On this day, Maa durga is worshipped in the form of 'Shailputri' and the colour 'Grey' refers to the quality of the destruction of evil.

2) October 18 (Orange)- On 2nd day of navratri Maa durga is worshipped in the form of 'Brahmacharini' and the colour 'Orange' symbolises tranquility and knowledge.

3) October 19 (White)- On 3rd day Maa durga is worshipped in the form of 'Chandraghanta' and the colour 'White' represents peace, serenity, calm and purity.

4) October 20 (Red)- On 4th day Maa durga is worshipped in the form of 'Kushmanda' and the colour 'Red' symbolises passion, anger and auspiciousness.

5) October 21 (Royal blue)- On 5th day Maa durga is worshipped in the form of 'Skanda mata' and the colour 'Royal blue' represents divine energy.

6) October 22 (Yellow)- On the 6th day Maa durga is worshipped in the form of 'Katyayani' and the colour 'Yellow' symbolises joy and cheerfulness.

7) October 23 (Green)- On 7th day Maa durga is worshipped in the form of 'Kalratri' and the colour 'Green' refers to the various aspects of mother nature.

8) October 24 (Peacock green)- On the 8th day Maa durga is worshipped in the form of 'Gauri' and the colour 'Peacock green' represents the desires and wishes the get fulfilled.

9) October 25 (Purple)- On the 9th Maa durga is worshipped in the form of 'Siddhidatri' and the colour 'Purple' represents ambition, goal, and energy.
